Teigen Hansen stays at home during the German WWII occupation of Norway and is arrested for refusing to teach Nazi ideology. He's sent to the labor camp outside Kirkenes, Norway where he survives brutal conditions. When he and the rest of the surviving teachers are released, he joins the Resistance - where he meets the enigmatic Selby Sunde, famous actress and Nazi officer favorite.

Captain Tor Hansen goes to America where he teaches US Army soldiers to ski at Camp Hale, high in the Colorado Rockies. He is met at the Denver Airport by Lieutenant Kyle Solberg, his beautiful translator. After training in extreme high-altitude conditions, the soldiers are deployed to Northern Italy to take in the German Army.

Five years later, Kyle visits Norway for the first time.
