Because when political upheaval sees me sent to travel across kingdoms, everything I thought I knew about King Midas is shattered .

What readers say
Readers find Gild an unusual take on the Midas myth and a thoughtful look at a manipulative relationship, seen through a heroine who keeps excusing her captor. The most common criticisms are that little happens, most of it is set inside a castle, and the prose leans heavily on comparisons and a modern tone. Many readers describe it as a setup or prequel and say the series takes off in Glint, and it carries heavy content warnings, including sexual assault.
Best for: Readers willing to push through a slow, dark first book for a big payoff later in the series.
